HDAA Dental Assisting Program trains students in essential skills to support dentists and ensure efficient dental office operations. The program includes Patient Care, Four Handed Dentistry, Radiology, Infection Control, Dental Materials, Office Administration and Oral Health Education. Graduates are prepared to assist during dental treatments, take X-rays in diagnostic quality, manage patient records, and maintain a sterile environment.
HDAA students will develop the skills to:
- Use dental terminology as appropriate to the situation.
- Demonstrate competence with compliance to HIPAA standards and OSHA guidelines in the dental office including standard precautions and principles of asepsis.
- Perform dental office administrative tasks professionally, ethically, and proficiently including the use of dental software, standard office applications, and the Internet.
- Perform basic chairside skills and clinical support required for a general or specialty dental practice including the ability to identify facial landmarks, chart existing conditions of the teeth and their diagnosed treatment and manipulate and handle dental materials proficiently.
- Demonstrate competence in taking a full-mouth set of clinically diagnosable x-rays observing radiation safety standards.
Mercie Uy is a graduate of Dentistry in Manila, Philippines. She has been a dental assisting and healthcare instructor for more than 15 years and a Dental Program Director more than 6 years. She also has over 20 years’ experience in a dental office as an office manager and dental assistant trainer. Mercie Uy believes that knowledge, training, skills and enthusiasm are the keys to a well satisfying and successful career.
